Screenwriter’s Assistant for Character Development

by | Blog

A friend and colleague recently suggest that I make available all the tools I use for developing characters. She was, is so supportive that I can’t help but take her advice. So, in the linked pages here I have done just as she suggested. I truly hope you find some use for them for your own projects.

Wherever possible, I’ve included a link or reference to the sources from which I compiled these extensive files. Please feel free to visit their pages, for they are far more knowledgeable than I in their particular fields.

The first link leads to a page titled Nature and Demeanor. Personally, I find that once I figure out a character’s Nature (who the person is at their core) and Demeanor (the person they allow others to see), it makes the rest of the character building process so much easier.

I’ve provided numbers beside most of the items in lists. So, if you have a random number generator app, you can assign random traits to a character, if you wish to. I sometimes find this helps, especially for secondary characters. Random has the potential for some amazing story ideas within the one you’re crafting. Of course, if something doesn’t make sense, just move on to the next one.
